square foot playground was built in keeping with the “shopping theme,” and was
built around Main Street USA, where you have everything from your local bank, to
a post office.

Austin’s Inspiration

When we
sat down and worked with the community the children gave us many pictures of the
sun the moon and the stars, thus the “space theme.” This project was built in
memory of a little boy named Austin who attended the New Beginnings program for
a year and had passed away.

This award-winning project is our flagship
playground from which all others have been modeled. This playground was the
inspiration for an initiative to build more fully accessible playgrounds in the
state of Maryland. The one-acre playground is built around “theme play” and has
seven different types of play.

playground was built around Marc Brown’s lovable literary character “Arthur.”
Through this playground the Beall community learned about the importance of
safety in play as well as accessibility.
